1993's "Superstar Car Wash" remains my favorite album by
The Goo Goo Dolls, a band who, in the early days, was considered a
Replacements knock-off. This comparison seemed to be solidified when
John Rzeznik asked
Paul Westerberg (of the
Replacements) to write the lyrics to the song "We Are The Normal", one of the singles from the classic "Superstar Car Wash" CD.

Ditto. Hold Me Up was my intro to the Goos, but Superstar Car Wash was their peak. I've loved songs from all their subsequent albums, in decreasing numbers unfortunately, but this album is beyond reproach IMHO. Cuz You're Gone and Girl Right Next To Me have some of the meatiest power pop guitar riffs of all time. I used to cover Stop The World with my band. Such fun to play...
Luke - thanks for commenting. I would have loved to hear your rendition of Stop The World! I keep hoping the Goos return to this form with their next release, but I know that ain't gonna happen. By the way - your CD is still in heavy rotation here! Cheers -B
